Happy October loves! How many times did you manage to blink before September was blown away in an autumnal gust? Moving swiftly on from September Blues I want to share a few ramblings at the beginning of each month in attempt to appreciate our Maritime climate and live seasonally. September was a funny one, despite not being at work I still managed to whip myself up in a ‘start of term stress’ perhaps some lame type of sympathy pain?! I also began the ‘new year’ completely disorganised and lost the mac charger for a full three week only to find it in my bedside table. I think my husband is keener for me to get my mind back over my pre-pregnancy body!
September blues can drift away in a flurry of fallen leaves because it’s Autumn baby! I am truly besotted with this season and it’s not very hard to see why. Walking in dappled sunlight, golden leaves crunching under foot, feasting on figs and wrapping up in woolen goodness. It’s just glorious.
We have some gorgeous American friends from Colorado who visited us this summer and simply could not believe the lack of pumpkin here in the UK. Hideous jack-o-lanterns do not count. They told delicious tales of pies and lattes (thank you Starbucks) and something I had never heard of, pumpkin bread. So to celebrate Autumn’s arrival I hereby vow to make pumpkin bread. After establishing that my trusted Waitrose does not stock such a thing as ‘tinned pumpkin’ Florence and I went in search of the real deal at the local pick your own.
Tomorrow is definitely going to be a pumpkin bread kind of a day, stay tuned for the recipe and fall for October.
Delicious Autumn! My very soul is wedded to it, and if I were a bird I would fly about the earth seeking the successive Autumns. – George Eliot.
