On days when Daddy is at work Florence runs rings around me (soon to be literal I’m sure). Our day has an overriding scoreboard, Florrie takes an early lead and defends her title right to the bitter end of the bedtime routine, but not today. Today is a very special day, Mummy’s hit one out of the park, got a home run and whatever other baseball jargon you can think of. Today it’s Mummy for the win. I must confess that the definition of ‘win’ may differ somewhat from what you child free folk are used to but there really is no other way to describe such an epic turn of events.
The babe awakes at 6.30am, 1-0 Florence.
After a period of intense white noise and down right refusal to take my head out from under the pillow a miracle occurs and she falls back to sleep, 1-1. God must finally be sick of my desperate pleas for more sleep and decided to pacify me!
One blissful hour of sleep later I awake to the usual dawn chorus of poop. I can almost hear an audible sigh from the washing machine as it gets ready to host yet another load of questionably stained clothes. But for the first time in a week the poop has remained in her pants (I promise you this is a major win in our household!) 2-1 to Mummy.
Just two short hours after waking it’s time for a snooze – oh to be 4 months old, am I right?! Readying myself for the inevitable ‘why are you abandoning me in my cot’ screaming fit I place Florence down for a nap. Creeping out of the room I can hardly believe this is happening, the girl sleeps! 3-1 to Mummy.
I downright throw caution to the wind now with a bubble bath and even manage a 3 minute hair mask (I got a free side of dreadlocks when I left the hospital). What is this crazy parallel universe?! But in all the excitement I left my clothes in the bedroom and there is no way I am pushing my luck that far.
I may well be sat in a towel on the landing because my clothes are being held hostage by a sleeping baby but I’m going take this one. Mummy for the win!
