Fresh. Fresh starts, fresh sheets, fresh air. January.
An altogether crisp fresh air greets my skin as I emerged each morning from the depths of duvet. As the bear lazily pads from it’s den after a long winter’s nap, I too scour around for my slippers, damning myself for not parking them at the foot of the bed. As the frosty floor bites at my toes I scamper into the kitchen to get a vat of porridge on the go. A quick peep beyond the curtain brings news of a frosty day. January, a fresh start indeed.
As the sparkle of Christmas gets packed away I find I need that little something extra to bundle me through these winter months. I too have reflected on the year gone by, cherished the good and made my resolve for areas of improvement. But that fresh, fresh air has me pining for those last lazy December days of log fires and festive films. So first and foremost I have resolved to begin work on the New Year in the gentlest, warmest way I possibly can.
We’re beginning the day with bowls of steaming porridge in bed, healthy and filling and an extra ten minutes of cosy warmth, bliss. The day is kept warm by constantly topping up the tea pot with hot water and an extra layer of socks. Housework, although a total bore, keeps you moving, combatting that chill that creeps in around lunchtime. When it truly is time to sit and work I’ve taken to wearing an oversized sweatshirt with a hot water bottle tucked inside. Finally, I’ve vowed to fill 2017 with books upon books, less screen time, more inspiration, creativity and escapism. Mercifully this resolution can be carried out from under the additional layers of blankets that adorn our bed, time for an early night it seems!
“What good is the warmth of summer, without the cold of winter to give it sweetness.”
Happy New Year!
