Falalalalalalalalalala…it’s practically here, the most wonderful, glorious, joyful, sparkly time of the year. With but one measly sleep between us, advent is here. The advent calendars have been brought, crafted and prepped, little fingers can hardly contain their excitement as peeling back the first window. It’s got me thinking about how I intend to fill this countdown to Christmas. I’m normally an advent candle type, but since the onset of early labour around the 19th December 2014 and the forthcoming child, that candle never did get burnt.
This year, I have focused on filling the 24 days with wonderful plans to weave our merry way through to Christmas. From parties to craft dates, meeting Father Christmas and one too many festive feasts the month is shaping up nicely but we all know how dangerously busy this time can get. So to ensure we don’t encounter burn out and reach the big day, tired, stress and estranged from one another, I’ve been sure to book in plenty of quality time with Trevor and Floss. It may seem obvious but I find it best to be intentional about these things as you can guarantee those will be the plans that slip in the busy times. We have a day set aside to celebrate our anniversary, family movie afternoons and even an entire day set aside for the three of us to pick our tree and decorate at leisure. Christmas is about togetherness, I’d like to be able to celebrate it without the irony of being too busy for quality family time.
We’ll be marking the weeks by lighting a candle on our advent wreath each Sunday, a solid reminder of the real reason for the season and a good opportunity to keep myself in check, lest the festive frenzy take over.
With love this yuletide,
